“Very likely the Astronomer Royal
has decided that although for such a beastly month as February
28 days as a rule are plenty.
One year in every four, his days shall be
reckoned as nine and twenty”
So run the lines in Gilbert and Sullivan’s ‘Pirates of Penzance’.
February has it’s downsides, but despite the temptation to curl up in front of a fire with a good book - or stream a series these days - now is the time to come out of hibernation and do some walking. 10 minutes along the path is enough. Try to mix up the pace by rapidly walking to a landmark and then easing up. As you walk, rotate your palms to the front and then to the back to counter the forward droop of the shoulders. If you want company and a prepared risk assessment, then mid sussex wellbeing web page lists organised walks for every level of enthusiasm.
This will provide a little preparation for the strenuous activities of spring and summer - I’m thinking gardening here - and will reduce the chances of having to crawl into and osteopathic practice near you. It’s always a pleasure to see you but a water-skiing injury is so much more glamorous than that caused by a little light weeding!
